Do any of the names of God have special meaning for you or make a unique connection?
Father – J.I. Packer says it best in his book “Knowing God”: “You sum up the whole of New Testament religion if you describe it as the knowledge of God as one’s holy Father.” As a twice-adopted man, it’s that much more profound for me.
“As a twice-adopted man, it’s that much more profound for me.”
That’s beautiful, Brian.
I was going to say “Father” as well. 🙂
Well, you know my response: I love Christ as “The Word.”
🙂 Yes. Me too.
There’s an amazing band called Aradhna that blends Indian/Mid-Eastern and Western styles in their music. In concert recently, they introduced a piece entitled, “Jesus, Lord of Liberation.” I was so struck by that idea – the beauty of Christ as the Ruler who frees. I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of liberty in Christ lately and I am pondering this name as a doorway into that concept.
Thanks for this, Kevin. I think this is important. Liberation—Exodus unto the Promised Land (which culminates in Christ of course)—is the central theme of all of Scripture.
I love Abba (aka Daddy). It makes me think of my relationship with my own earthly daddy and how safe, warm. loved, and supported I am in that relationship. How much more am I loved, safe, warm, supported (and so on) with my Heavenly Daddy!
Amen! Thanks, Karice.
