Normally around this time of the week, I’d be rewinding through the posts here at swwf, but I’ve run across so much good stuff throughout the week that I just had to share some of that richness.
I’ll stick to the top three:
Every week my dear friend Ginger posts her Friday finds, usually a book that has been an integral part of her spiritual life. This one really caught my attention. Everyone deals with heartache; everyone deals with rejection. The Art of Rejection deals mostly with romantic rejection (both sides of it), but its principles are widely important in the life of believers in Christ who said,
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven…”
This is an important post about the evils within the Christian culture of guilt-tripping our brothers and sisters into service, attendance, ministry… As Christians, we want to serve, we want to please the Lord and we want to live fully in the life he’s created and recreated in us, including our hand-crafted gifts, talents, and passions. And that willingness and desire too frequently gets taken advantage of. It’s easy to do. And we need to be more guarded about both letting it happen to us and doing it to others. As Scott says in this post, “stop feeling guilty when you don’t have to!!!” I agree.
Singer-songwriter Christine Hand and her band rock… literally… playing a mix of her original songs and artistic, acoustic classic rock covers from the 60s. Christine has powerhouse vocals that will slap you in the ears—in the best way—with their soulful range and sweet clarity. So to all my Houston-area friends, go to her show! You can check out her music here.
